Had Enough of Workers' Rights Violations? Demand Better From the Secretary of Labor!

Target: Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor
Sponsored by: American Rights at Work
President Bush has appointed some real scoundrels over the years, but Elaine Chao has to be one of the worst.

Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao has done horrible damage to workers' rights by gutting safety regulations, promoting a big business agenda and undermining workers and their unions at every turn.

The policies she could try to push through as she leaves would take years to undo. But if she thinks no one is watching in her last months in office, she's wrong.

Let Elaine Chao know you're one of thousands of Americans holding her accountable!

deadline: Ongoing...

Dear Secretary Chao,

I'm outraged to learn about your record of gutting safety regulations, promoting a big business agenda, and undermining workers and their unions. It should be your duty to protect the interests of hardworking people like me, not those of corporate America, but that has clearly not been the top priority of the Department of Labor under your leadership.

As a person who cares about workers' rights and the misguided direction of our country, I will be paying attention to the policies and practices of the Department of Labor during the remainder of your time in office. In particular, I am deeply concerned about your demonstrated record of slashing safety and health regulations, ignoring the economic needs of the workforce, botching mine investigations, and advocating against workers' rights. These dangerous and misguided practices must stop.

[Your comment here]

It is time to restore the Department of Labor as an agency run on behalf of America's workers.

Please do what's right for hardworking men and women in our country.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Our American workers are the backbone of American industry and need to be treated with respect, not like indentured servants. How can you, in all good conscience, gut safety regulations for thousands of workers? How can you allow companies to operate with unsafe working conditions? These are people we are talking about, not robots!

Recently it came to my attention that you have made some not only irresponsible but dangerous judgements in your position. I can only assume that you are one of the hoards of "yes" people who have been hired by the Bush Administration.

I have worked several days straight with no chance of bathroom breaks, or breaks. Yet when I try to complain I am told I can be replaced and no one really investigates labor violations. Since this is a big corporation I work for I have found out that this is true.

America's work force makes up the backbone of this country. To neglect their human rights and wellfare is the same as abandoning the nation. It is about time that someone within the US government has the guts to stand up and make a difference to the whole nation. It is not difficult. It just takes courage. If you don't have the courage to make decisions based on the benefit of your countries best welfare, ie. the American people (and not just big business), then you are in the wrong job.

All Americans deserve safe working conditions and good pay. There is no excuse not to provide the American work force with good pay and benefits. Even if some of the corporate heads have to suck it up and make a few million less.

companies and corporatioons are nothing but sharks! They don't care about their workers and their needs and they try to do things to their workers to make their lives miserable-it's all politics and ceo's should'nt be overpaid cry babies. No wonder companies are so political and corrupt and only care about making money! Mgt and CEOs can rot in hell!

If people in our Government continue to ignore the needs of the average worker in the US and don't think of the future consequences of their actions, this country will become a society of 2 classes: the wealthy/government personnel and the working class...or better said the "Haves and the Have Nots". Personally, our government employees/officials should have the same hospitalization and retirement benefits as it's citizens!!! What a shock...perhaps things would change for the better regarding social security and health care.

Labor is one of our most valuable resources and must be treated as such. To allow mine workers to work in unsafe conditions is unethical.
