Save Tigers: Urge China to Maintain Ban on Trade in Tiger Parts

Target: Zhou Wenzhong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the U.S.
Sponsored by: Care2
Tigers are the largest of the big cats, and they are also one of the most threatened. According to a new report, tigers are on a "catastrophic" path to extinction - and China's proposal to lift its ban on domestic trade in tiger parts could spell the end for these majestic wild cats.

Poaching and the illegal trade in tiger parts are major threats to wild tigers. China banned the trade in tiger parts in 1993. But China just told the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) that it would allow trade in tiger parts from farmed tigers if a scientific review showed it would reduce poaching.

The owners of private Chinese tiger farms - the source of some of the current illegal trade in tiger parts - are putting pressure on the Chinese government to lift the ban, claiming that lifting the ban will benefit tigers by regulating the tiger parts trade. But lifting the ban could be a death sentence for tigers.

Please send your respectful message to the Chinese Ambassador today to ask China to help conserve tigers by continuing its ban on the trade in tiger parts.

To Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong,

I am writing to respectfully request that China uphold its current ban on trade in tiger parts.

I appreciate all of China's efforts to protect tigers, including the 1993 ban on domestic trade in tiger parts, all efforts made to enforce this ban and campaigns to raise awareness and reduce demand for tiger parts among Chinese consumers. China's leadership in tiger conservation has significantly reduced the demand for and illegal trade in tiger parts.

It is critical for the long-term survival of tigers that China uphold the ban on domestic trade in tiger parts. I respectfully ask that China continue its legacy of tiger conservation efforts by making its ban on tiger trade permanent.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Please, we all love tigers, around the world, we respectfully request that you help these animals as they cannot help themselves in this manner. Please maintain the ban on trade in tiger parts, surely there is another way for these people to get what they need without using tiger parts? Thank you so much for your caring in advance.

everyone needs to think about the children that come after us. So many of them don't even know what a cow looks like and there are millions of them. What the reality that they will ever get to see a tiger except for in a book if we don;t stop people from plowing over them.

The using of tiger parts in traditional Chinese medicine is an uncivilized practice. Send a message to the rest of the world that China has moved into the 21st century by continuing the ban!

Tigers are such wonderful animals and to see them in the wild has almost become impossible nowadays because of the illegal tiger trade that is going on.Being educated citizens of our country it is our duty to protect, preserve and prevent these majestic masters from entering the museums as wax models and wallpapers. So lets us come together and make a difference, let us SAVE THE TIGER FROM BECOMING HISTORY.

Tigers are among the most recognised animals in the world. They have provided inspiration and lasting memories for generations. Please do not add to the many obstacles this species is already facing. Please maintain your current ban on trade in Tiger parts.

I am deeply concerned about the future of tigers, and I believe that China's current ban on trade in tiger parts plays a major role in protecting the remaining wild tigers and reducing poaching. Please do not lift the ban for captive-bred tiger parts - this action will only lead to more demand and more illegal poaching of wild tigers.
