Is God Green?

Sponsored by: Care2
What would Jesus do to protect the environment and stop global warming?

You don't have to follow a specific religion to believe that God is green. Do you believe it's our spiritual duty as God's shepherds on earth to protect and treat with respect the nonhuman AND human animals and our environment on earth? If you do, sign this petition.

Even people who overwhelmingly voted for President Bush for "moral" reasons oppose the President's stance with regard to the environment. For example, the National Association of Evangelical's VP for Governmental Affairs vehemently opposes the administration's efforts to gut environmental protection laws.

Christian, Jew, Buddist, Hindu, or just spiritual? Whatever your faith, if you think that God means for us to protect the environment, sign this petition. With enough comments, the media and world religious leaders will take note.

I believe it is the moral duty of all people to protect God's creation - our environment
and the animals on this planet, human and nonhuman alike.
We signed the “Is God Green?” petition!

I am a believer in God, which religion is unimportant, but most religions teach that we are stewards of the earth..since we have the capacity to reason(although lately...?)we need to be the shepherds watching over the sheep, metaphorically speaking. If not us humans, who else? If each of us, individualy and collectively, such as on petition sites, do all we can each day... conciously, to improve the quality of life on the planet, we can have a tremendous impact! WE, as consumers, can write, call or email politicians, corporate CEOS,local stores, etc. letting them know what we do and don't support and threaten to boycott them, we hit them in the only place they have feeling.. their wallets! Consumer power is awesome, as I have discovered. Don't support non green businesses, organizations, governments etc. Thus, the voice of ONE becomes the voice of many...who cannot long be ignored. The consequences of action and involvement? Shunned or boycotted businesses become history. Business once again caters to its demanding customers, we get safer LOCAL food, and perhaps MOST far reaching...we keep jobs in America, FOR Americans! Thois improves the American economy and the quality of life overall!I, personally can't STAND my customer service calls being routed to every poor foreign country in the world where Corporate America pays these barely English speaking people extremely low wages, with long hours, frequently 7 days a week without benefits or workers' comp. It's a disservice to them and a slap in the faces of Americans who need a job! And then we wonder when we get tainted or poisoned food/goods from these same countries. What corporations save in hourly wages, we pay too high a price for in "manufactured tragedy". I'll tell you some ways that I make a difference. I catch and distill rain water for drinking, thus, I know what's in it (nothing bad!) I find new uses for things that would otherwise be discarded, I recycle all that I can, I donate what I can no longer use, I keep my car tuned as well as possible and use it as little as possible, and I educate everyone who will listen as to the urgency of reusing/recycling/green living as possible. we who care should all get together and compare notes and ideas. We can turn this current nightmare around..with concerted effort, mass advertising (WOM) and CARING enough to protect the amazing sytems of nature, which, on inspection, all we who believe must agree did NOT arise out of some primordial soup, but is rather a Divine gift, which we can protect and cherish or neglect and abuse, with dire consequences to all it's inhabitants!

Is it not important to perserve the environment so that our children and their children have a clean environment to live in, a clean place to play? Clean air to breath? They need to know that this world is ours to protect and we are not showing them how to do that, how are they going to know what to do if they do not see it being done? Once a year you have them plant a tree in school and you call it Earth Day, well shouldn't every day be Earth Day? Should we not make sure that we are doing our best to make sure that we are keeping our environment healthy?

Not to be a downer, but I don't think Jesus would have ever treated the Earth the way we are treating it now. In fact, I think He is rolling over in His grave because His name is used to justify the capitalism that has single handedly trashed our planet, and will later eliminate most of the worlds population. Hats off to cheap, lead contaminated things Made-in China-and-sold-at-Wal-Mart. All in the name of capitalism....

If nothing else, Jesus was a very wise man. Where are our brains when it comes to these issues? Conscience? How much wrath must mother nature put upon us before our priorities change???
