和歌山県太地町の海岸線の一角にある小さな入り江。町の漁師達に堅く警備されたこの入江では、公共から隠されて２万頭以上のイルカが毎年大量虐殺されています。捕獲されたイルカ肉は、有害なレベルの水銀で汚染されているにもかかわらず、鯨肉として日本国内で販売されています。

「The Cove」は、この状況を潜入調査した活動家と映画撮影者達の情熱溢れるドキュメンタリー作です。北米では既に数々の賞を獲得し、世界中で配給されつつあります。

「The Cove」の撮影チームを率いるのは、６０年代のテレビドラマ「tわんぱくフリッパー」でイルカの調教師として活躍後、SaveJapanDolphins で世界中のイルカ保護活動を代表しているリック・オバリー氏です。オバリー氏は、日本の大半の人々が太地町のイルカ猟問題に気づいていなく、知らされるなり反対するであろうと信じています。また、本作では、太地町の学校給食でイルカ肉の使用を禁止する活動を呼びかけた町議会議員二名が称賛されています。

我々も彼らの努力に続き、活動しましょう。

日頃の国政にお礼を申し上げます

日本国内の各地で販売されているイルカ肉の出品を禁止していただくよう、ご要望お願いいたします。

ご存知のように、2007の5月と6月に和歌山県太地町のスーパーで発見されたゴンドウイルカ肉からは、厚生労働省が承認する規制値の約１０ - 16倍もの水銀、及び汚染物 (PCB等)が検出されています。 (PCB 0.66ppm、総水銀 6.39ppm、メチル水銀 3.6ppm)

太地町などで捕獲されているこのような汚染肉は、未だに国内各地のスーパーや食料品店にて販売されています。　しかし、この問題に関する国民への被害注意や、認識度を高める政府活動は一切行われておりません。　このままでは国民に対する害が継続されるばかりです。

即、汚染されたイルカ肉の販売を禁止するよう、ご要望お願いいたします。
