How is SeaWorld still getting away with keeping Orca's and other animals in captivity? They work the Orca's really hard to make them do tricks whilst lining their own pockets! Has everyone forgotten the past and how SeaWorld came to acquire the Orca's? Orca's in captivity live up to 4 years old and SeaWorld insist they live to a maximum of 35 years in the wild yet there has recently been a recording of a 103 year old Orca. They also insist that 25% of male dorsal fins are clasped. 100% of Orca’s in the wild have an erect dorsal fin. 100% of Orca’s in captivity have a clasped dorsal fin! Over the years SeaWorld have lied and covered up Orca attacks and deaths against humans and other Orca’s. It is time for the truth. It is time to release all Orca’s!
The animals that are too old or weak should be released in to an open ocean pen and the young and healthy should be released back in to the wild with the correct rehabilitation scheme to ensure their survival. SeaWorld has no right to keep these animals in captivity.
In the 1970's fishermen were ordered to catch Orca's. They threw bombs in the water to separate the young from the adults. Once caught, they were shipped to SeaWorld. The young Orca's who were accustomed to swimming over 100 miles per day were starved, punished and kept in a small floating metal container. SeaWorld sold tickets so humans could watch them jump out the water and touch a ball hanging in the air.
A particular fisherman, whilst crying admitted to finding three baby Orca's dead in his net and being instructed by SeaWorld to cut them open, fill them with rocks, tie an anchor to their tail and drop them back in the water. This is not the act of a company that has the animal’s best interests at heart. This is a company that has no knowledge or respect for the animals they capture, breed and punish.
Animal conservation can be a great thing. It has saved and it will save many animals existence but SeaWorld is not a conservation company it only harbours the animals for entertainment and money making. This needs to stop! People need to stop visiting SeaWorld and the animals need to be released. Our children and their children should grow up knowing it is wrong to keep animals in captivity. They belong in their natural habitat.
