Ban Greyhound Racing in Florida
Several states have already voted down the continuation of greyhound racing tracks in their states. One state that is still operating greyhound racing parks is Florida. Recent polls show that over 50% of Florida citizens look unfavorably upon this so-called sport.
The ASPCA and other groups have investigated the conditions for these gentle creatures and the results have been absolutely horrendous. Dogs are forced to endure up to 23 hours in a cage each day, while others are killed on 'greyhound farms' before even making it to the track because they are not fast enough to race.
Beyond these dire circumstances are the concerns over what happens to the dogs after they are no longer fit for racing. When they aren't winning their races any longer, what happens when they are retired? Many are are sent to breeding farms to regenerate 'new stock' while others are simply killed.
Please tell Senators that we need to step up the heat on the greyhound racing industry.
We the undersigned are writing to ask that you take a stand and put forth a bill to end greyhound racing in Florida. This state is due to close its tracks after recent research shows that at least 54% of Florida citizens look unfavorably upon it.

Investigations around what these animals must endure to live a racing life are absolutely horrendous. Dogs are forced to spend up to 23 hours in a cage each day, while others are killed on 'greyhound farms' before even making it to the track because they are not fast enough to race.
And, what happens to the dogs after they are no longer fit for racing? When they aren't winning their races any longer, what does their retirement actually mean? Many are are sent to breeding farms to regenerate 'new stock' while others are simply killed. This is not something we can allow any longer.
The citizens of Florida do not want to be a part of it and neither do the animals that continue to suffer needlessly every day for a 'sport' they do not want to be a part of. Please urgently take steps to immediately phase out greyhound racing in Florida.
