Help Establish a 24-hour Learning Center and Women's Shelter by Saving Fairhaven Retirement Home!

By signing the petition below shows your support for the City Planning and Zoning Commision to change the current use of the facility to one that will benefit the community as Little Red Children's Learning Center, a 24-hour daycare and Little Red's Fairhaven, a women's transitional living shelter. Your support will allow us provide affordable and reliable child care to working parents with unorthodox schedules and will help support the simple pursuit of happiness to many women and children in need.
Fairhaven Retirement Home located on 2400 N Bell was built in 1965 by notable architects Arch Swank and O'Neil Ford. Fairhaven provided the first rest home to the Denton Community. The building is not a part of the historical collection of architecture on Bell Ave as described by the Bell Ave Historical Conservation group and is therefore not able to receive the protection it needs.
The building, still in great structural condition, lays vacant and subjected to vandalism which increases the risk to the surrounding businesses and neighbors. Fairhaven deserves to be saved! Fairhaven needs the community!

We, the undersigned, call on the members of the City of Denton Planning and Zoning Commision to change the current zonging code from Neighborhood Residential-3 (NR-3) to Community Mixed Use General (DC-G) so that Fairhaven is able to function as a children's learning center and women's transitional living.
