Please help us hold the City of Calgary accountable for a negligent inspection of our basement foundation.

Issue: A City of Calgary building inspector signed off on our basement foundation even though this was not damp or water proofed. This is a breach of building code, and a health and safety hazard. The City has repeatedly tried to frustrate our attempts to have them hold the responsible parties accountable for this issue, and have raised every possible objection in order to avoid dealing with this matter in a just and ethical manner . The city has also unfairly ordered us to undertake the very expensive and complicated repairs that have resulted from the negligence of others.

Background: We are a family of four. Our previous home sustained damage to both our basement and main floor during the June 21, 2013 Alberta floods. The flood and subsequent reconstruction were particularly hard on us, and we made the decision to move out of our home and community because we knew that we could not psychologically, physically or financially risk having to cope with another flood.
We purchased a new spec house, completed a home inspection and felt confident that we had made a good purchase. We took possession of the house on April 30, 2015. Since moving in, we have noticed various issues including water leakage through various areas of the building envelope system. We contracted Williams Engineering to deliver a transparent assessment of the building envelope. Williams Engineering has identified multiple serious and costly building envelope deficiencies. The majority of the building envelope issues have to be resolved through other avenues. However, after reviewing copies of the construction permits issued by the City of Calgary, we learned that a city inspector had passed and signed off on our basement foundation even though this was not damp or water proofed. This is a breach of building code, and a health and safety hazard. The City has repeatedly tried to frustrate our attempts to have them hold the responsible parties accountable for this issue, and have raised every possible objection, in order to avoid dealing with this matter in a just and ethical manner . The city has also unfairly ordered us to undertake the very expensive and complicated repairs that have resulted from their negligence and the negligence of others. Please sign our petition.
