URGENT: Defend Papahānaumokuākea: The world's largest ocean refuge

Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument is an amazing global treasure which protects a vast stretch of ocean around the Hawaiian islands – it's over half a million square miles, an area greater than the size of Texas, California and Montana combined.

It was initially created by President G.W. Bush and expanded by President Obama - it's a wonderful example of bipartisan conservation. Unfortunately, President Trump seems determined to shrink the monument. If he does that, he would undermine efforts to protect more than 7,000 species that live here. That's coral, fish, birds, and marine mammals and other flora and fauna, including the endangered Hawaiian monk seal, three endangered whale species, and the endangered leatherback and hawksbill sea turtles.

We urgently need President Trump to understand how important Papahānaumokuākea is. From ugly and damaging plastic pollution, to destructive overfishing, the monument is helping the environment of the Pacific Ocean.

His administration has opened up a federal comment period to reassess every large national monument created since 1996. His administration has already proposed shrinking Bears Ears National Monument, let's keep them from doing further damage to efforts to protect our shared home. The public comment period closes July 10th, so please sign and share the petition today.
