Give Ashton Fritz a Fighting Chance

  • by: Patsy M

On July 28th, Ashton Fritz, just 17 years old, suffered a spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed from the chest down, while at church camp in San Diego. He has no use of his arms, torso, and legs at this time.

We are petitioning Kaiser Permanente to refer him to Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado where they have a state of the art Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation program for teenagers. Their results have proven to be one of the finest in the nation. If Ashton is going to progress to the use of his arms and even walk again, he needs to have the best care possible.

Craig Hospital is about $90,000 per month, and we are raising money to help the family. But, it can't just be about the money, it's about this young man's chance to achieve his dreams. Please join me in signing this petition to encourage Kaiser to do the right thing and give Ashton a chance. Please go to https://www.gofundme.com/AshtonFritz to contribute. Thank you

We didn’t get the answer we wanted today. They were optimistic the authorization going through for Kaiser to send Ashton to Craig, were led to believe we would be flying to Craig Wednesday. At 5pm, Kaiser ‘conveniently’ called to let us know they have decided to repatriate Ashton back to Roseville for the healing of his sacral wound (with Craig rehab in the future). Let's asked Kaiser to explain their decision. Why wouldn’t it be in Ashton’s immediate best interests to transfer him to Craig.

FROM SARAH: 08/25/17 I must trust that the night nurses will position Ashton high on his side and off his bed sore at midnight, 2am, 4am, 6am, and 8am. The constant revolving door of nurses day and night means I have to monitor and educate them on Ashton’s positioning ALL-the-time. Craig Hospital are the experts in SCI, and therefore vigilant about bed sores and wound care – this is why Ashton must go there immediately. Please help us get there! www.GoFundMe.com/AshtonFritz

So now it’s up to Kaiser to complete the referral “in the system” and AUTHORIZE Ashton’s transfer to Craig. Kaiser said they expected to hear from Craig in the morning and would go from there. If Kaiser agrees with Craig’s recommendations and timeline, and gets it all lined up by end of Friday, we could be on an air ambulance Monday Morning. Prayers, please, that Kaiser and Craig can reach a mutual understanding and agreement for Ashton’s best care.

The Craig liaison will be here at 2pm Wednesday to evaluate Ashton! It all still feels a little “shaky”, as there was some confusion regarding whether Kaiser’s referral to Craig actually went through. NCal Kaiser has assured us and Craig Admissions that the unit responsible for getting the referral ‘in the system’ is taking care of it. This allowed Craig to continue to move forward with the on-site eval of Ashton at UCSD. Any family would need help to pay $90,000 PER MONTH in hospital bills!

Supporters... Kaiser has given the referral to Craig. Now it's to get them to finance his rehab. They set a precedence by paying 100% of the same rehab at Craig for a Kaiser nurse's daughter. This cutting edge rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries is about $5,500 PER DAY. Kaiser says they will pay $2,500, the family pays $3,000 PER DAY or $90,000 per month. Please spread the word. Please go to GoFundMe.com/AshtonFritz. It takes a village and in this case it takes a nation. We thank you.
