HANDS OFF BYWAY 12, AKA "THE DROVE", AT STONEHENGE, WILTSHIRE

  • by: Robyne Foster
  • recipient: John Whittingdale, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport

Stonehenge is owned under Freehold Lease by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, John Whittingdale, however, Stonehenge is outsourced managed on his behalf by, "The English Heritage Trust."
Since 1905 many Footpaths and Byways across this Stonehenge Landscape have been illegally closed and made inaccessible.
"Byway 12," aka, "The Drove," is the last Public Access Route whereby we the Public can visit the Stonehenge Landscape without having to pay the demanded £5+ to the Secretary of Culture, Media and Sport to park in English Heritage's Car Park. And yet the English Heritage Trust, in cahoots with a couple of local Councillors, a local Journalist and Wiltshire Council Highways Agency, (who have persistently evaded maintaining this Byway in good health,) are continually attacking our Rights of Access and trying very hard to close this last remaining free access to our local landscape, which for many thousands of visitors, both local, national and international, is deeply worrying, but even more so for the hundreds of Disabled visitors to Stonehenge that this motion would effect the most deeply. We who are unfortunately Disabled, are witnessing Fit and Able bodied men and women taking away the last free access for the Disabled in exchange for yet more coin, this is lamentable and must be prevented.
Please sign and share this Petition to stop Byway 12 being closed to Car Drivers, Campervans, Bike Riders, Cyclists, Horse Riders, Walkers and Motability Scooters.

THANK YOU.
