Demand St Kilda penguin killers be brought to justice

A little penguin brutally kicked to death on the St Kilda pier in full view of tourists. A fortnight later another two are cruelly stomped and kicked by a group of thugs. The same person who was seen killing the penguins has been seen before harassing the colony of Little penguins in the past.

Often sought out by tourists and locals alike, this small colony of just 1000 penguins have become Synonymous with the historical pier. A Melbourne landmark, the pier is a popular destination for anyone who wants to go for a walk, cycle, rollerblading and even fishing. St Kilda Pier has nearby barbeque, picnic and playground facilities. This is not a setting where one can even imagine this sort of grotesque violence.

These little penguins are defenceless and have grown to trust, not fear humans. Unfortunately, this trust has proven to be misplaced - they need to be protected, from us.

We need to do more to protect the little penguins - we must ask that Mayor, Cr Bernadene Voss take decisive action to protect them: a cash reward leading to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest of these hoods, and park officials to conduct regular patrols until then. Further precaution should include a look at the current fencing - is it adequate to protect a vulnerable colony of little penguins from hoodlums and over-enthusiastic tourists alike?

Sign this petition with me, let us save these penguins from any more terror and death. We must insist that action is taken now for their protection. If you are as horrified as I am that anyone would want to inflict such horror on a small defenceless creature, and you want to help - sign this petition and pass it on. We will not allow this to happen again. The St Kilda Pier belongs to all of us, and murderous thugs are not welcome.
