Costa Rica: don't slaughter Hammerhead sharks that need protecting!

  • by: Tyrone Castillo
  • recipient: Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solís

The new Costa Rican government has just signed agreements with Smalley Development S.A. for over a metric ton of Hammerhead shark fin exports to Hong Kong. Please sign this petition to ask that the Hammerhead shark be protected as a vital part of our ecology.

As a Costa Rican, I know that Costa Rica has a strong record on environmental protection which resident Luis Guillermo Solís’ is failing to live up to. In 2013, the country fought hard to have three species of Hammerhead shark protected in international trade legislation. Please don't let him undo that good work.

Hammerhead sharks are seriously threatened by overfishing and I want to see them protected, not slaughtered.

Please ask the Costa Rican government to wake up to its environmental legacy, and to protect our precious wildlife, including Hammerhead sharks. Thank you very much.
