Due to recent research conducted by the Victorian branch of the National Trust, they have identified the EAST BENDIGO AVENUE of HONOUR as being the FIRST therefore OLDEST Avenue of Honour planted in the state VICTORIA. It was planted on ARBOR DAY in June 1916. Prior to this NEW EVIDENCE, National Trust had identified the EURACK Avenue of Honour as the first planted Avenue. Council have just VOTED against protecting the TREES in a HERITAGE OVERLAY AGAINST the recommendations of an INDEPENDENT PLANNING PANEL and even after this NEW INFORMATION was brought to their attention by NATIONAL TRUST VICTORIA. The EAST BENDIGO AVENUE is set to be DEMOLISHED to make way for a 7 LOT INDUSTRIAL ESTATE on the site.

THANKS AGAIN to ALL who have SIGNED and COMMENTED on my PETITION to help SAVE BENDIGO EAST"S AVENUE of HONOUR from DEMOLITION!! Things have been BUSY over the last 8 mths and on JUNE 16TH, this AVENUE will be 100 YEARS OLD!!!
In MAY 2016 there is a HERITAGE COUNCIL HEARING and an OPPORTUNITY for the SITE to be REGISTERED and PROTECTED on VICTORIA'S HERITAGE REGISTER.
STILL ALIVE on ANZAC DAY 2016, may this AVENUE of HONOUR be here in the next 100 YRS !!!

In WW1, 9 MEN from EAST BENDIGO, AUSTRALIA went to WAR + NEVER RETURNED HOME!!! Others RETURNED PHYSICALLY + EMOTIONALLY SCARRED for LIFE. Let's KEEP SIGNING + SHARING this PETITION so that THIS BEAUTIFUL LIVING MEMORIAL to these MEN MAY continue to EXIST well into this CENTURY and BEYOND !!!
