Don't Let Government Fail to Educate Our Children

Our government needs to meet the diverse educational needs of all American children. It is time to select a Secretary of Education who values and supports alternative education opportunities like public charter schools.

Children need flexibility because they have individual learning needs. But traditional public schools have strict regulations that hinder a teacher's ability to adopt successful alternative teaching strategies. Public charter schools offer students a variety of teaching styles that can respond to children's specific needs.

Parents, teachers and students of public charter schools all have high satisfaction with public charter schools. Compared to public schools, public charter schools graduate more students with better GPAs. But because of state caps and lack of sufficient funding, public charter schools make up only 3 percent of all public schools in the U.S.

Tell President-Elect Obama to choose a Secretary of Education who recognizes the importance of public charter schools as successful alternative education.
Dear President-Elect Obama,

Our children deserve an education that allows them to be competitive in the global economy. But government has education policies that end up hurting American children. Please refocus American education to meet the needs of American children, looking to alternatives like public charter schools.

What is best for one child may not meet the learning needs of another child and teachers should be able to individualize their teaching strategies to give the best education possible. But individual needs are being stifled because public schools do not allow for individualized teaching methods. This is not in the best interest of our children.

In order that we may not jeopardize the future of our children, alternative education options need more aid and stronger support. Please appoint a Secretary of Education who understands the need for alternative education opportunities such as public charter schools.

Public charter schools offer teachers who are willing to meet the needs of a diversity of students and who have been successful. There is a growing need for public charter schools, but funding for these schools is not increasing in direct relation to the need. Waiting lists for public charter schools are on the rise, leaving more than 300,000 students stuck in the failing public school system.

Public charter schools have proven to be successful and it is time that the government supported an educational opportunity that actually works. Please appoint a Secretary of Education who will understand the diverse educational needs of children and support public charter schools.
