Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to strongly urge India's India's Ministry of Environment and Forests to make good on its commitment to Protect Snow Leopard while funding outreach to engage local communities in the important work of protecting these rare cats. While other countries are meeting in conservation efforts to protect the leopard populations, India will not be attending these important efforts.

Snow leopards are in danger of losing habitat and wild prey to sustain their numbers and existence. They often live in pasture lands with other livestock that they feed on because of loss of habitat and food. As documented by the Guardian news, entire landscapes need to be conserved with the active participation of people. India currently has between 400 and 700 snow leopards needing sufficient habitat and landscaping, such as Hemis-Spiti in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Gangotri-Nanda Devi in Uttarakhand, and Kanchendzonga-Tawang in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, totaling about 18,000 square miles. The government of India has now drafted a visionary program called Project Snow Leopard, in effect since 2009, in an effort to save these animals. Yet they are still in danger.

We are asking India's India's Ministry of Environment and Forests to make good on its commitment to Protect Snow Leopard while funding outreach to engage local communities in the important work of protecting these rare cats. With the help of the Nature Conservation Foundation and the Wildlife Institute of India, landscape and habitat may include conserving all of Ladakh. In order to help and protect these rare cats, India needs to have community support in methods and alternative ways of handling and reducing conflicts with the snow leopards.

If the government of India would take just a little more effort in Project Snow Leopard , it could achieve much. The hope is that the upcoming Bishkek meeting with other countries will inspire the government to act energetically on Project Snow Leopard this year, the International Year of the Snow Leopard. You can help us to achieve our goals in protecting the snow leopard in India by signing and sharing this petition everywhere worldwide. Lets work together to urge India's India's Ministry of Environment and Forests to make good on its commitment to Protect Snow Leopard while funding outreach to engage local communities in the important work of protecting these rare cats.
