Justice for the Crocodile that was Stoned to Death at Belvedere Zoo

Twice in as many weeks a zoo animal has died due to tremendous cruelty. Belvedere Zoo in Tunis, Tunisia was the site of a brutal attack in which zoo-goers, for no reason at all, hurled rocks and slabs of concrete at a crocodile. The animal suffered hemorrhages to the head and died shortly afterwards. Zoo officials later posted photos of the poor creature, they are heartbreaking and too gory to post here.

Zoo officials say that there are over 150 species at the zoo and they can't afford to put a guard in front of each cage. But they can take measures to make sure this never happens again by increasing park camera surveillance and ensuring that those responsible are punished for this unthinkable act.

Belvedere Zoo is no stranger to controversy, last year the zoo made headlines when photos appeared on social media of animal enclosures littered with trash including cigarette butts, food packets and plastic bottles. This is no way to harbor and care for some of the magnificent living things that roam our planet with us.

Join me in asking zoo and government officials to do what is right by finding those responsible for this crime and ensuring that from now on the animals in their care will get the protection they deserve.
