Free calls to all NHS services

Speaking from my own personal experience, my dad has always had a problem getting through to his GP practice to cancel any appointments that he is unable to attend. The difficulty is always getting through and so he is left with 2 choices. He can stay on hold until he gets through to cancel the appointment which leaves him with an expensive phone bill on his landline or he does not make the call which then is an appointment wasted that could have been taken by someone else. Free calls to all NHS services would mean that patients could phone to cancel appointments and spend as long as it takes getting through without being charged. With the current cost of living crisis and the ongoing delays in treatment caused by Covid this would mean more available appointments which are a priority nowadays as well as better care for patients, especially the elderly and vunerable like my dad.
