Canada – Demand National Ban Practice of Shoving Pipes down Bird Throats for Foie Gras

In accordance with a previous petition on this issue, it is common at a farm in Montreal, Canada to raise their ducks and geese through the abusive practice of jamming pipes down their throats.  It is their belief that this horrific practice will create a fatty liver, a delicacy known as “foie gras.”  The pipes are rammed down the bird’s throats twice daily, pumping nearly 2.2 pounds of fat and grain in this force feeding method. Read more from PETA and this abusive practice at http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/factory-farming/ducks-geese/foie-gras/

Several areas of our country uses this method on these animals as per an investigation by PETA and their findings showed the abuse first-hand.  The pipe ramming often ruptured organs, caused lumpy type tumors and created extreme stress for the animals.  Some have been witnessed bleeding from their mouths and their stress caused them to pull out their feathers and that of other birds in their enclosures.  Some other health issues included fungal infections, heat stress, damage to their esophagus, fractures of their sternum, impaired liver function and various lesions on the bodies.

Our efforts in this petition is to ask for a full ban on this practice and method of force-feeding throughout all of Canada, especially at this farm in Montreal.  This is such an abusive method of care for and feeding these birds.  Despite the purpose for keeping any animal, there is never an excuse to abuse and harm them to create an unnatural delicacy.  You can help us in our efforts to ban this cruel practice by signing and sharing this petition.

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada – We strongly urge you to place a full ban on the practice of ramming pipes down the throats of geese, ducks and other birds for the purpose of creating Foie Gras.  This is supposed to be a delicacy that causes a fatty liver through this procedure, clearly abusive and cruel to these animals.  A known farm in Montreal alone utilizes this horrific practice that caused lumpy type tumors and created extreme stress for the animals. Ban this practice country-wide and ensure any such farms are regulated and monitored to enforce complete humane treatment of these animals.
