So far, at least 85,000 children alone have starved to death in Yemen thanks to foreign intervention preventing the flow of basic goods such as food. Experts warn that this coming winter will be especially devastating to the civilian population and estimates suggest as many as 14 million deaths could be the result.
This is an entirely preventable humanitarian disaster and the U.S. could help end it if they wanted.
Saudi Arabia is one of the main players in the war in Yemen and is directly and indirectly responsible for an untold number of civilian deaths. One of the reasons Saudi Arabia has been able to do this is due to the support it receives from the West and the United States, in particular.
The U.S. Senate was just successful in moving a resolution through committee which will bring about a vote that could force President Trump to withdraw U.S. support for Saudi Arabia in Yemen. This would be a significant move that would force Saudi leadership to the negotiation table in order to seek a humanitarian ceasefire — meaning goods and personnel crucial to averting the worsening famine from claiming even more lives.
