Uganda Govt.; Pay US$9m rent due to Buganda

The deliberate punishment by Uganda Government not to pay rents due to Buganda Government for a period of 16 years which currently amounts to Uganda Shillings 18.7 billion is simply immoral for a Government of the people.  "It is believed the delay to pay the amount due to Buganda Kingdom is intentional to cripple the kingdom so that it becomes irrelevant," said Mayiga Peter; the Minister of Information in Buganda Government.  Ref: http://www.monitor.co.ug/News/National/-/688334/865010/-/view/printVersion/-/89sqkjz/-/index.html

It is absurd to find that the Government of Uganda year after year for 16 years now can be reluctant to pay rent due to Buganda Government premises it is renting.  The money if paid would help a number of development efforts for example getting employment opportunities for the youth many of whom keep moving up and down the streets as they look for employment which is not there.  Secondly, Buganda has a number of children who are needy, Kabaka's Government put in place Kabaka Fund to among other things help children attend school given that many of them have had their parents die due to incurable diseases and political developments.  It is not only sad, but surprising that the Government of Uganda is simply reluctant to pay this money.  It is unfortunate that on 10th September 2009; the Government of Uganda decided to close CBS radio which was a good source of income to Buganda Kingdom and employing not less than 109 people.  These are sad developments, but the appeal is that you sign the petition as concern about this deliberate injustice by the Government of Uganda.
I thank you.
