Stop the "INHUMANE" TREATMENT of the Feral cats and Bees in Petaluma

Target:
500,000

Petaluma passed an ordinance back in 2004 to "control" the feral cat population but this method of "control" is not working. Since this ordinance, Petaluma Animal Control has euthanized over 1,500 ferals. It also states in the ordinance that we are to destroy bee hives and their bees.
Please sign this petition so we bring to the City Council's attention that this ordinance is unacceptable and inhumane. Once it is changed, we can start implementing educational programs for the public, a humane trap, spay and neuter, & release program and spay and neuter clinics. Unless we change this ordinance and the "flawed" language, the cycle will continue. Without your signatures, the bees and the ferals have no chance.

Myself & my former husband, Robert J. Smith, lived in Petaluma after our marriage in 1971. "R. J.", Robert Joseph Smith still lives there and has been there ever since. Their family, Deverty Wallace (R.J.'s wife) and Seair (their daughter) have ,what they call a feral & not so feral cat living with them. I just had to write you this personal note. God bless your efforts!

I wish we could pay more to suppoert this, but we are now retired & both have health problems. Some years ago, we had a small electrical business, which had an ally behind it. One day, we noticed a litter of 4 kittens & we were afraid they would be abandoned. So we tried to catch them, which we did & kept them in a large box, to give them food & water. We cut some holes in the lower part of the box, so they could see us. Finally, we opened the holes, so they could come out. It took awhile, but finally, they ventured out. Soon, we had 4 little kittens, running around. I could write a book about how they were so different, We took them to be neutered & spayed, & they were around for several years. When we closed our business, there was one left, which we brought home to an enclosed area until she got used to her new home. We had her for several years, until she developed cancer in her mouth & eyes & after there was no chance of recovery, we put her to rest. By then, she was 19 years old. Sadly, we really missed her, as she was like a part of the family. She had been an outside kitty, until she got older, so it was even harder. Now, we have a Ferel kitty, who arrived about 5 years ago. We trapped her,to be fixed & we still provide food & water, on top of our tool-shed. She is still wild, but thankfully she isn't a fighter & lets outher cats or animals share her food! I hope someone enjoys my story. Mrs Mescheder

please allow these feral cats to live as there are millions & millions of people, still exploding in population & smaller numbers of them comparatively. the capture, neuter, return is a great way to control the feral cat colonies. the bees are 1 of most efficient helpers of humans. please do all you can to save them as well. i ask for your compassion. regards, cem h. ozkok

We ask that you stop killing these defenseless animalas. We have rescued three of these homeless cats from a no kill shelter. Between shelters like that and organizations that will donate time and facilities to neuter or spay the feral cats, there is really no good reason to kill them. We as human's have allowed the situation to get to this, and we should be the ones to fix it correctly. Please give us the time to get our organizations together and we can make it happen for these beautiful animals.

Please stop killing these poor defenseless and homeless animals. If you allow cat caretakers to take over, they will remove all the domestic, friendly cats, along with TNR for the ferals. Please stop this violent act against these poor animals. May these poor creatures find love and warmth in their lives!

To the city of Petaluma: Please reconsider your ordinance to destroy the feral cats and bees in your city. TNR-which means trap, neuter, return- is a nationally successful way of controlling the feral cat population. Where it has been instituted, there have been proven results in limiting, and frequently eliminating, feral cats through neutering, management, and sometimes adoption. Alley Cat Allies and other cat or humane groups can show you how to start Petaluma on this program. Likewise, please reverse your order to destroy bees and their hives. This goes far deeper, into the realm of being necessary for the production of agriculture in America. A recent nightly news report on the disappearance of bees stressed the mandatory use of bees to pollinate most of our major crops, and how some crops are shrinking due to the lack of bees. They are vitally important to the food infrastructure in the U.S. If you have too many Petaluma can't handle, contact a professional beekeeper who can round them up and redirect the bees to places and industry that are in dire need of them. I ask that you reverse both these ordinances immediately. Thank you very much.

with the state that bees are in.. it is a good idea to start colonies an added bonus to keeping bees besides for their pollination is that people like me who live in petaluma and have horrible allergies can take a teaspoon of locally produced honey a day to become a little bit more immune to the allergens

The only thing that works is TNR. I have experienced the program, and have maintained a colony for three years. The colony stayed between five and six cats during that time. TNR really works. Please stop the killing.

If human are superior beings, then we must be smart and committed enough to solve the problems caused by feral cats without the murder of innocent lives. I have taken in 2 strays myself and they were spayed and neutered. My cats have given me tons of love and laughter in return. Come on mankind; step up to the plate!

The City of Petaluma should look into trap, neuter and release program that our sister cities have adopted. They also should help finance this program, like other cities do and they encourage and have private benefactors. It is the humane thing to do. What is this about bees? We need every last one of them. I really don't understand this city!

Petaluma should look into a TNR (trap, neuter and return)program and stop the barbaric practice of killing cats, and bees for that matter. I have never been to Petaluma, nor have even heard of it before this. I have added to my list of places to stay away from. RST

THERE ARE MORE HUMANE WAYS TO CONTROL THE OVER POPULATION OF FERAL CATS. IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT THE HUMANS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THE PROBLEM.

I think that animals need from us to speak for them. They don't have the power we have to help them. They have feelings, they feel the pain, they are lives. They just don't speak our language.

I think that shooting an animal that cannot defend themself os the most evil and in humane thing you could ever do. i saw an ad on craigslist for a woman that had 3 kittens in novato and she had over 100 calls and offers for those kittens. people still want kittens!!!! give them a chance to be rescued and put in a good home.

We can make a difference for the lives of these precious angels. Who are we to judge who will live and die? the only diffrence between us and these ferals is the language we speak. They feel pain, hunger, and love just as we do. Please continue to protect these little angels.

This is so horrific, brutal and inhumane. The best way to go is to do "Trap Neuter Release" and it will be better for everyone involved. The situation will take care of itself more humanely, that is what has to be done just like in many other towns and cities.

Feral cats are the result of humans not being responsible. Please do not kill these beautiful and innocent beings. Please, please find a way to make trap/neuter/return work. There are many, many people who will assist with this. It has been proven in other parts of California and the world that feral cats can and do decimate rodent populations, naturally, instead of by the use of poisons. Please do the right thing by God's creatures - do not kill the ferals.

This is barbaric and inhumane and does not work! It must stop now! There are much more effective ways to control cats. Start with a humane and effective TNR program and the situation will get under control.

Feral cats have a right to live also. I cannot understand such heartless actions as killing an innocent animal. Trap Neuter Return works. How would you like to be killed for no reason? Many feral cats are the result of irresponsible people who dump their cats because they are irresponsible, heartless and cruel. Please stop dumping cats, pets need to be fixed!!! and given a loving home. A helpful website is www.feralcat.com and ofcourse there are many others.

This is not the way to control the feral cats. I have 10 ferals that live on my property. I feed them twice a day. I can almost touch them. When I can get them, I'll have then spayed and neutered. What you are doing in inhumane and you will suffer for it in the future. This is barbaric and a total embarassment to everyone. Whoever thought this was a good idea is an idiot. Someone doesn't like cats and that someone has too much influence in this town. STOP what you are doing. Killing feral cats now because you don't want them -- next year is it killing unwanted children and the elderly. You are an embarassment!!!!!!!!!
