Lets get the health department in NJ to ban ear piercing guns. This device is unhygienic, inaccurate, and above all dangerous. People MUST be made aware of the risks.
We the undersigned believe piercing guns are unhygienic, inaccurate, and above all dangerous. We would like the Health Department to ban the use of these dangerous devices.  As is now well known, the Hepatitis virus can live for extended periods of time on inanimate surfaces, and could be harbored within a piercing gun for several weeks or more. Hepatitis and common staph infections, which could be found on such surfaces, constitute a serious public health threat if they are introduced into even one reusable piercing gun.  Ear piercing guns can not be properly sterilized and an alcohol wipe or spray does not sterilize the gun.  For more information please visit: http://www.norwalktattoo.com/piercinggun.htm http://www.akrontattoos.com/Pguns.html
Thank you for reading our petition, we know as someone who cares about the publics health and well being that you will have no choice but to act on this and ban the use of piercing guns in NJ.

Piercing guns are one of the most dangerous contraptions ever invented. No self respecting piercer uses them, including myself. Any type of body modification should be left to trained professionals in the field and not to those in Wal-mart, malls, etc. The healing process is often uncomfortable and the jewelry is not of the appropriate grade which may cause extreme reactions in unsuspecting clients. With body modification becoming more commonplace, it would be the proper idea to monitor such products. Just Say No to Guns.

how do we do surgeries these days? do we make a neat incision, or do we force forceps through, hoping it will heal fine? point.

Unfortunately, people only go for the "cheap" price now. They don't know how unsafe and non-sterile "piercing guns" are. How much is the treatment for A.I.D.S., or any other disease you can get from them?

piercing guns + mall employees = bad news. you see the guns in malls all over and 9 times out of 10 its some one that has no clue what they are really doing.

Piercings don't kill people, piercing guns kill people...they can spread all kinds of crazy diseases. Do you really want your kids to end up with hepatitis or aids or worse?

Ban them. They're unsafe, unsanitary, and unneccesary.

People who are not qualified to pierce should not be allowed to give substandard piercings to individuals who slap down their money not knowing the risks.

After learning all the consequences of the piercing guns and the people that use them, I am not only utterly disgusted but angry that something hasn't been done sooner about this issue. Please spread the word!

There are plenty of professional piercers available in NJ for a sterile, body piercing. Piercing guns cause too much trama to skin as well as the people who use them are not trained, licensed, professional piercers.

I had my ears pierced at 13 with a gun, the woman who did it was a nurse and my ears had to be pierced twice for them to be even, because I jumped from the noise. Once done, I had ear infections for years until I finally let my ears close for a year and then had them re-pierced. Please ban this dangerous and infection carring devise.

The act of using piercing guns is an unclean and causes unseen bodily harm.Since the implement used to do the piercing with guns is not compleatley sharp it rips its way through the flesh causing sever tissue damage instead of cutting a clean hole that enables the piercing to heal quickly, This is also why people experiance a high infection rate and "knots in their ears when they get it done with a gun. A tribevaled needle is the only way a piercing can be done in a safe, clean, non tissue harming way. The needle cuts a small hole instead of tearing and this causes less pain and promotes better, faster healing.

Piercing guns are unsafe in the first place. They are even more dangerous in the hands of untrained 16-year-olds who use them at their part-time summer job at the mall. Professionals don't need them, and professionals should be the only ones to pierce.

after having 2 'botched' piercings done with a gun, I agree, it is unsafe, and it just allows the inexperienced to endanger the public

These tools are unsafe and unsound. They damage clients' and put their health and safety at risk. As a medical professional, I urge the Department of Health to ban these dangerous tools.

Piercing guns are unsafe and should be banned. They allow inexperienced piercers to continue operating on consumers who are uninformed of the health and safety risks.

I think piercing guns are very unsafe and I am sure they are not sterlized the way they should be to protect the people/kids that are getting these piercings.
