Five Points for Darfur

  • by: Darfur Facebook
  • recipient: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and World Ambassadors
We are starting 2009 with intensified attacks on innocent civilians in Darfur.  Many of our brothers and sisters are being killed, raped, and displaced.  The victims are no different than you, your family, and your friends.

The United Nations is supposed to be the place where the world comes together, but Darfur has been left out, effectively abandoned in camps or worse.  It is time for the UN to take on its RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT and go beyond politics.

We are asking for:
  1. Robust and Effective Protection Force on the Ground
  2. Disarming of Janjaweed
  3. Bring Perpetrators to Justice
  4. Reparations for Victims
  5. Darfuri Participation in Government

Dear Secretary General and World Ambassadors to the UN:

We the undersigned urgently request immediate steps to make the following Five Points happen in Darfur:

  • Robust and Effective Protection Force on the Ground
  • Disarming of Janjaweed
  • Bring Perpetrators to Justice
  • Reparations for Victims
  • Darfuri Participation in Government

In 1948, the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  The Declaration states in its preamble:

"Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world."

This is far from true in Darfur, and you have the obligation to change that.

Sincerely,
