City authorities in Chernihiv (Ukraine) are killing homeless dogs using terrible poison called dithylinum. It paralyses animal%u2019s muscles so that it cannot even squeak while dying in pain and long agony not being able to breath. There is evidence that dogs are being buried alive. Dog catchers also beat animals to death with steel rods right at the streets. Sometimes they kill even those dogs who have homes and wear collars. All doggies in the grave have their muzzles stained in blood, some are disemboweled.
The most vexing things is that money spent on murders would be enough to solve the problem of homeless animals in a humane way %u2013 that is, spaying and neutering dogs and cats and finding them new homes.
All it takes to stop this horrible massacre is one decision by city mayor Oleksandr Sokolov. Yet, he does not seem to care. At the same time, Mr. Sokolov says he dreams about drawing lots of tourists to Chernihiv.
