We the Councillors and residents of Chafford Hundred are deeply concerned and ahghast at the proposal to install a mobile phone mast in our closely knit residential community.
We are aware that just recently a mobile phone company had to remove a mast from a block of flats after seven residents were struck down by cancer.
Of these, 3 residents died and another four have battled the disease since two masts were erected on the roof of the five-storey block which has become known locally as the Tower of Doom.
The cancer rate on the top floor - where residents of five of the eight flats have been affected and the three who died all lived - is 20 per cent, ten times the national average.
Residents also complained of terrible headaches and other ailments which they blame on radiation from the masts.
We do not want to have that experience in Chafford Hundred, and are therefore calling on 02 to withdraw their application with immediate effect and put lives about profits.
We further call on Thurrock Council's planning department to reject the application outright.
