Who Killed Keyru Mustafa Lolo?

We, the undersigned, write to appeal to your honorable office to do everything in your power to help solve the murder mystery in the case of our beloved family member, friend and brother, Keyru Mustafa Lolo.

Reportedly, Keyru received multiple gunshots on Friday, October 16, 2009 at approximately 8:57 p.m. as he was leaving his uncle's house. Momentarily, the Denver Police Department received a call of shots fired at 1150 Syracuse Street. It took couple of hours for Keyru's family to learn about the brutal murder.

To everyone's dismay, they were informed of the cold-blooded murder when the police knocked their doors with a picture of the deceased. He was pronounced dead shortly after at the local medical center.

Keyru came to the United States in 1996 seeking safety and to be reunited with his parents who were already in the States. At the time, he was only twelve years old. After starting at an English Second Language (ESL) class, Keyru soon rose to the top of his class and graduated from High School in 2003. Since then, he went on to attend public and private universities in the state of Minnesota.

Throughout all these years, Keyru has been known to his family, friends and community as humble, friendly and caring person. He has also been an active member of the Oromia Youth Association, since 1998.

Among other things, Keyru has time and again volunteered and dedicated his time to helping newly arriving immigrants learn and adjust to the American way of life. His leadership, dedication and ability to bring in more members to the group with his charm have been exemplary. He has taken part in numerous fundraising, awareness raising and political rallies to bring the plight of Oromo people in Ethiopia to the fore.

His sudden departure therefore, left a deep mark in the community and among our youth members. And the news of his murder in broad day light has terrorized his family and friends alike.

Keyru moved to Colorado in search of a better job and to be with other members of his family in June 2009. He was also planning to go back to school in the spring of 2010.

We, applaud the steps taken thus far by Denver Police and the Homicide Unit to bring justice in the case. We sincerely hope and pray that the criminals who are responsible for slaying our beloved family member, brother and friend will be captured and brought to justice.

We write to appeal to your good office to urge the Denver Police Department to assign high priority to the case in order to expedite the investigation process.

We hereby strongly recommit to stand with you every step of the way in resolving this mystery.

Sincerely,
