Tell Dunkin Donuts Rachel Ray Is Not a Terrorist

Dunkin Donuts has pulled an ad featuring Rachel Ray wearing a black-and-white paisley scarf, because a clique of right-wing bloggers led by Michelle Malkin attacked Rachel's fashion choice.

Malkin and her followers claim Rachel is wearing a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. And as silly as it sounds, these bloggers are trying to claim sweet Rachel Ray is some kind of terrorist sympathizer for simply wearing a black and white scarf, and that anyone wearing an actual keffiyeh is a terrorist.

Even more outrageous is the fact that Dunkin Donuts caved immediately to these lunatic pundits and pulled the ad. Tell Dunkin Donuts you don't believe Rachel Ray's scarf is a terrorist symbol and that you're disappointed in their decision to capitulate to the hysterical fringe of the right-wing blogosphere.
We feel compelled to let you know we don't believe Rachel Ray's scarf turns her into a terrorist sympathizer. We were very disappointed to find out you caved immediately to the demands of a group of lunatic pundits and pulled the ad.

If your company was so concerned about controversy distracting from your ad campaign, you should have ignored the inflammatory remarks of right-wing bloggers like Michelle Malkin. Your decision sends the message that you agree at some level with these bloggers' claims that anyone wearing a black and white scarf is all of the sudden a terrorist sympathizer--even sweet Rachel Ray--and that anyone wearing an actual keffiyeh is a potential terrorist.

If we want to live in a more peaceful world, we need to promote tolerance and understanding, not a culture of ignorance and fear.

As a high profile company who has an important role in public opinion, we urge you to stay out of inflammatory and silly plots, to stop partaking into offensive misconceptions and to work to create a more peaceful world.
