Raise Awareness: Concentration Camps in North Korea

This petition is intended to bring awareness of the suffering of North Korean concentration camp victims to the public and congress.
We, the undersigned, are asking you to bring this issue back to the senate for discussion. In July 2002, senators KENNEDY, ALLEN, and BROWNBACK hosted 3 North Korean refugees, survivors of North Korean prison camps, for a hearing before the Immigration Subcommittee. Since then, nothing has been accomplished toward rescuing these people. It is estimated that more than 3 million people have died of starvation and murder in North Korea since 1990, more than 200,000 are enslaved in concentration camps, and up to up to 300,000 North Korean refugees are in China, hiding in fear of being captured and repatriated by China. Although a mission to save these people will be difficult, there are many things that we, the US, can do to help them. The first step should be dialog with China to reverse their deportation agreements with North Korea. We should also work to ensure goods manufactured in the camps do not reach the international marketplace through China.  We believe that, during an election year, increasing awareness of this important issue will have more of an impact on policy. Indeed, all actions by representatives will be greatly appreciated by their constituents.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this issue. Many Kind Regards.
