The iPhone is a revolutionary cellphone, communications, and multimedia device produced by Apple Inc. that has sparked much interest worldwide. As Time and Stuff magazines' Invention of the Year in 2007, and ComputerWorld's second most important invention of the year, it has certainly interested customers worldwide, in particular, the ones living in Canada.

Apple iPhone was released in the USA on June 29th, 2007. Soon after, iPhones were introduced in the United Kingdom, Germany and France in November 2007, and in Ireland and Austria in March 2008.

However, the USA's largest trading partner and neighbour, Canada, does not have the iPhone yet. At the same time the customers of Rogers Wireless Communications Inc. have been receiving the following, apparently standard, response to their iPhone-related inquiries as early as in February 2007:

"Rogers is actively working with Apple to launch the iPhone in Canada as soon as possible and will be the exclusive provider of the iPhone in Canada.

Rogers will be offering the iPhone exclusively in Canada but launch date and pricing for Canada are not yet available. Other Canadian wireless carriers will not launch the iPhone; Rogers will be the only Canadian wireless carrier to offer the iPhone.

We appreciate your continuing patronage. Please contact us at your convenience if you have any further inquiries."

Now more than a year later, there's still no official release date for the iPhone in Canada. The purpose of this petition is to call for the support and introduction of the iPhone for wireless users in Canada, or at least for some official announcement as to the current state of the situation.

We, the undersigned, pledge our support to Rogers Communications Inc., that we would support the launch of the iPhone in Canada.

We pledge that if the iPhone was released in Canada by Rogers Communications Inc. and Apple Inc, we would purchase an iPhone along with a monthly data plan.

We pledge to spread the word to our friends and family to promote the sale of iPhones in Canada.

Please recognize the demand for the iPhone in Canada. Or at least, please give us a release date to look forward to. Thank you.

This is absolutely ridiculous that Canadians are still waiting for the iPhone. I realize that some of the holdout has to do with trademark concerns given that ComWave still holds the rights to "iphone", but it also has to do with the exorbitant pricing schemes of Rogers Communications. I am a Canadian who owns an iPhone, and I like so many others have been forced to buy and hack the phone in order to use this technology in Canada. Canada is supposed to be a world leader, but we are behind third world nations when it comes to the wireless market. And monopolies like Rogers keeps rates so high that it's actually twarting the proliferation and growth of wireless technology and the mobile internet. We are demanding change in the wireless market. Bring the iphone to Canada, lower rates and reduce data plan costs for the consumer.
