Fight Back Against the New Wave of Toxic GMO Pesticides and Crops

Last year, the EPA approved Dow AgroSciences' toxic and controversial pesticide Enlist Duo for use on a new generation of GMO corn and soybeans.

Earthjustice's legal experts are waging a full-court press on this issue, arguing that EPA's approval violated laws including the Endangered Species Act. The agency's own assessment identified risks to endangered species like the whooping crane, gray wolf, and Indiana bat through consumption of prey contaminated with the toxic chemical.

Tell President Obama that his administration made the wrong decision by approving Enlist Duo—a toxic cocktail containing two dangerous ingredients.

One of the toxic ingredients in Enlist Duo is 2,4-D, a component of the infamous Vietnam-era defoliant Agent Orange that has been linked to serious illnesses such as Parkinson's disease. Another is glyphosate—the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup—which was recently classified as a "probable human carcinogen" by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer.

The EPA approved Enlist Duo to address the super-weeds that infest tens of millions of acres of U.S. farmland as a result of the overuse of Roundup. Essentially, Dow AgroSciences created a newer, more dangerous pesticide and GMO crop combination to tackle the remarkable failures of the one Monsanto put on the market.

It's up to us to change this broken system. Tell President Obama it's not too late to turn back the approval of Enlist Duo.
It's not too late to turn back the approval of Enlist Duo

Dear President Obama,

I urge your administration to turn back the approval of Enlist Duo and the GMO crops that have been engineered to be resistant to it.

[Your comment will be added here]

These GMO crops, like their Roundup-resistant predecessors, could lead to much greater use of even more dangerous chemicals, the development of more herbicide-resistant weeds, destruction, the genetic contamination of neighboring crops, and could have severe economic impacts on other farmers.

Besides the serious threat to crops and farmers' livelihoods, allowing Enlist Duo to be sprayed on millions acres of corn and soybeans may harm or kill dozens of imperiled species, as well as increase the health risk to humans.

The EPA's own assessment identified risks to endangered species like the whooping crane, gray wolf, and Indiana bat through consumption of prey contaminated with the toxic chemical.

One active ingredient of Enlist Duo, 2,4-D, has been linked to serious illnesses like Parkinson's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and reproductive problems, and another active ingredient, glyphosate, was recently classified as a "probable human carcinogen" by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer.

Please take a step back, and disapprove Dow AgroSciences' dangerous pesticide Enlist Duo, and the GMO crops associated with it.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
