Protect America's Last Wild Forests Before It's Too Late

Target: Forest Service Chief Bosworth
Sponsor: SaveOurEnvironment .org
  • Signatures: 57,201
  • Goal: 55,000
  • Deadline: 11-15-2004
There are only a few days left to protect our beautiful national forests from permanent destruction by road-building, logging and drilling! Please act now to prevent this by signing our petition to the Bush administration below before the comment period ends on November 15, 2004.

Despite their earlier promises to uphold the excellent Roadless Area Conservation Rule that currently protects our wild national forests, in July the Bush administration proposed a repeal of the Roadless Rule. As soon as the administration's plan takes effect, 58.5 million acres of our national forests will be at risk from drilling, road building and logging.

Once a wild area is opened up by a road it is never the same again. These forests belong to us and we need your help to let the Bush administration know we do not want to sell out our national forests to corporate special interests.

Your comments really do make a difference. You can help stop this senseless destruction of our national forests, but you have to act now before it's too late!
This petition is now closed.

Protect America's Last Wild Forests Before It's Too Late

Dear Forest Service Chief Bosworth:

In response to the public comment period (Docket # 04-161913), I strongly oppose the proposal to repeal the Roadless Area Conservation Rule.

The Roadless Rule is a balanced policy that was finalized after years of scientific study, 600 public hearings and a record number of public comments, which overwhelmingly support protecting roadless areas through the rule.

The Roadless Rule is a vital tool for protecting our national forests from harmful and costly road-building and commercial logging.

I urge you to abandon this proposal and keep the Roadless Area Conservation Rule intact in the Lower 48 states and Alaska's Chugach National Forest, and reinstate the rule in the Tongass National Forest.

Thank you for consideration of my comments on this crucial issue.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
