For the Release of Prisoners Subjected to Torture in Foreign Countries

This Petition seeks the immediate release of Lionel Navarrette, who was invidiously tortured in Mexico
Over ten years ago, Mr. Navarrette was invidiously tortured by Mexican authorities and "confessed" to his secondary involvement in homicide. When he was eventually transferred to the U.S. he required extensive medical treatment to restore teeth, hearing and reasonsble health. The DOJ refuses to dishonor the "conviction", despite accepting the torture, as the Transfer Treaty prohibits it. How do we honor a conviction founded upon torture? Why do we turn a blind eye to Americans being tortured in "friendly" countries?
We need help to push the DOJ into reviewing his case and the circumstances under which it was obtained. If Mr. Navarrette was tortured, then NO conviction should stand. Your signatures can make the difference.
