A panel of federal judges has ruled in favor of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in a controversial mountaintop removal mining legal case.
The ruling will permit mining companies to conduct devastating mountaintop removal coal mining operations without acting to minimize stream destruction or conducting adequate environmental reviews.
As a result, Appalachia could now be facing up to 100 new mountaintop removal coal mining permits, which would destroy huge swaths of the Appalachian Mountains.
Watch the powerful speech by Ashley Judd here, and then sign this petition to request an end to coal mine construction.

I have recently learned about mountaintop removal and I find it very unnatural and unnecessary. I hope that people will make the right decisons and stand up for what is best.

Mountaintop removal is incredibly harmful to our ecology and is needless, as we can invest in better, more lasting energy sources.

Growing up in a small town called Cresaptown, right next West Virginia, I have seen the beauty destroyed first hand by coal companys. These coal companys continue to destroy the environment for their own benefit and not for the people of West Virginia. This must end now, before all of Appalachia is destroyed.

Please help us make mountaintop removal coal mining a thing of the past. There are far too many negative impacts of coal mining and burning, and we need to instead implement strong energy efficiency measures, and then smart renewable energy programs.

We already know destroying our forests, mountains and streams contributes to global warming, the loss of irreplaceable plant and animal species and poor water quality. What will we become without the very things that sustain us? Please, please, please put an end to mountain top removal mining! Our lives depend on it.
