DENY CAITLIN LEASURE'S KILLER EARLY RELEASE/PAROLE

cait/morganOur precious, beautiful daughter, Caitlin, age 20, was killed on March 26, 2006, by a drunk driver. Marlon Dewayn Johnson, driving the wrong way while intoxicated on I-95 outside of Savannah, Georgia, hit the vehicle in which Caitlin was a passenger head-on. Johnson is a repeat, habitual DUI offender, with a record dating back fifteen years to when he was eighteen. Caitlin and her boyfriend, Morgan, who was seriously injured, were innocent victims of this man's total disregard for life and the law.

On December 1, 2006, Johnson pled guilty to felony vehicular homicide (DUI) and felony bodily injury (DUI). Judge John Morse sentenced him to 15 years for each felony charge, with "10 years to serve." The remainder of his sentence (20 years) will be probated.

HOWEVER, JOHNSON WILL PROBABLY NOT BE INCARCERATED FOR 10 YEARS. THE GEORGIA BOARD OF PAROLE & PARDONS, CAN AT ANY TIME, GRANT JOHNSON CLEMENCY, AND RELEASE HIM.

We are extremely concerned because Johnson has currently served three years of his sentence. Therefore, he may be eligible for parole at any time - the average length of a prison sentence in Georgia is 1 year.

We are also fearful that once paroled, Johnson will slip through the cracks. Because he is an Alabama resident, Alabama will be responsible for monitoring his parole/probation, not Georgia. We do not want him to "disappear" due to interstate bureaucracy, incompetence, and politics.

PETITION OPPOSING EARLY RELEASE / PAROLE FOR MARLON JOHNSON
GA. CASE NO. EF 620595
GDC ID: 0001235105

To be submitted to:
James E. Donald, Chairman, and the Georgia State Board of Pardons & Paroles
on behalf of Caitlin Leasure and her family

We, the undersigned, oppose early release/parole for Marlon Dewayn Johnson, a convicted felon. Anything less than completion of the original maximum sentence (10 years) is unacceptable. Johnson should serve the entire prison term handed down by Judge John Morse, not an arbitrary, subjective term decided by the Georgia Board of Paroles & Pardons.
By keeping Johnson in prison, the State of Georgia will protect society from a repeat DUI offender/killer, and send a strong message that drunk driving will not be tolerated.

MARLON JOHNSON DOES NOT DESERVE CLEMENCY AND SHOULD NOT BE TREATED LENIENTLY...HE IS NOT THE VICTIM!!
