Please join me in thanking Chicago's Alderman Moore for his unwavering commitment to the Chicago foie gras ban! Foie gras production is one of the most torturing industries we have seen in this country, and is banned in many other countries, including: Israel (2003), Austria (6 of the 9 provinces), Czech Republic (1992), Denmark (1991), Finland (1996), Germany (1936 and 1993), Italy (2004), Luxembourg (1965), Norway (1974), and Poland (1999). This ban, hopefully the first of many, will pave the way for compassionate laws in this country.
The harming of animals or children should not be an “option” in this country. There are many physical effects of force feeding, just to name a few:
inability to walk or stand
lacerated or punctured trachea & esophagus
bacterial and fungal growth & infections on the lining of their organs
stomach and liver bursting
choking and suffocating on undigested food and/or vomit
And since the liver is so overwhelmed it can no longer function, which in medical terms is called Hepatic Lipidosis which in turn creates:
brain damageIf over-eating was at all a natural or welcomed occurrence, they could just put out excess food & they would gorge themselves. The fact that they have to be force fed, using a metal pipe shoved down their throat, shows how wrong it is. Also, they are being fed only corn and oil, which neither is obviously found in their natural diet, so their body fights to reject this mixture (and they do not receive any protein or necessary vitamins to help their bodies fight).
eruption of the liver
Many people have spoken out against this practice, from the Pope Benedict XVI to James Moore, television’s James Bond. We are very proud to add Alderman Moore to the list!
