Ask President Obama to Protect and Preserve Our National Parks!

In his State of the Union address to America last year, President Obama pledged to use his authority to protect our federal lands for future generations.

Thankfully, actions already underway could provide long-lasting benefits for our national parks. But with just more than a year left in this administration, time is running short.

Next year's 100th anniversary of the National Park System is a historic opportunity for our nation to recommit to ensuring our parks have the protections and resources they need to thrive in their second century.

Take action: Ask President Obama to use his authority to do everything he can to protect and preserve our national parks so that all Americans can experience adequately funded parks with the cleanest air, healthiest waters, and most abundant wildlife possible.
Dear President Obama,

In your State of the Union address to America, you pledged to use your authority to protect our federal lands for future generations. I want to thank you for that pledge, and to ask for your personal commitment to use your authority to improve our national parks.

Our national parks need your help. The Grand Canyon is threatened by a massive commercial development near its south rim; industrial-scale energy projects have been proposed along the borders of Mesa Verde, Glacier, and Mojave national parks; the life-giving water that sustains national parks of the Chesapeake, Great Lakes, and Everglades suffers from years of degradation; and unless clean air rules for national parks are strengthened, it will take centuries to restore natural air quality to parks like Olympic, Voyageurs, and Yosemite.

The National Park Service celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2016, giving you a golden opportunity to secure long-lasting protections for park air, lands, water, and wildlife. I appreciate that your administration has already started addressing some of these issues. But with just more than a year left, time is running short.

Please make the most of your remaining months to do everything you can to protect and preserve our national parks.

Sincerely,
