Don't Kill Grand Canyon's Buffalo

The National Park Service (NPS)  wants you…..to kill one of America’s iconic national symbols. Park officials in the Grand Canyon National Park are struggling to keep the North Rim buffalo population’s numbers under control.  And now want “volunteers” to do the dirty work by hiking in and killing these incredible beasts.

If we don’t act fast anywhere from one to two thirds of the population is at risk of being killed. While an overpopulation of buffalo could pose a risk to the remaining wildlife within the park it is important to keep in mind that there are other methods to control their numbers besides taking their lives.

Non-lethal methods such as immunocontraception - vaccine induced birth control - or relocating the excess numbers to other regions. These are safe, humane ways to control the population without resorting to bloodshed.

There are clearly other ways to control the North Rim buffalos' numbers and we should encourage the NPS to abandon their barbaric volunteer kill squad plan and instead support a cruelty-free solution.  Please sign the petition and tell the NPS to use non-lethal methods to control the Grand Canyon buffalo population.
