Defend Women's Rights in the Aftermath of Ebola

Ebola has gripped the world's attention for over a year, yet most of what the media has reported overlooks the human rights crisis at the center of the outbreak in West Africa. In reality, the Ebola crisis has raised serious human rights concerns that we just can't ignore, from abuses by security forces to orphans in need of protection.

Take the disproportionate impact of Ebola on women. Not only did more women die and become infected, but today women are also poorer and more vulnerable to sexual violence. Widows have less household income. Survivors are struggling to reintegrate into society. Many women have lost their sources of livelihood, as the markets and trade routes where they made an income have been closed.

The Fund for Global Human Rights is responding by supporting women's rights activists across the region. Local women's groups are reaching out to women where they live to make sure they have access to welfare and services and that their needs and rights are respected as countries respond to Ebola. These activists and others are keeping the priorities of women front and center as West Africa recovers from Ebola, but they need our help.

If you believe that women's rights should be a priority as West Africa recovers from Ebola, then please take action today. Together, let's spread the word about the on-the-ground activists protecting women's rights in the aftermath of Ebola.
