Protect Little Lungs from Smog

The Koch brothers are committing to spend 889 million dollars to get the president they want into the White House. Their agenda does not include reigning in air pollution. In fact, it does just the opposite: let air pollution rain down on the people.

What have we got in response? Our voices. And we need to use them right now.

We must continue to chip away at air pollution and climate change. As you read this, parents across the country are supporting EPA's plan to clean up smog pollution. Smog is especially harmful to little lungs. That's why EPA has proposed to tighten allowable levels of smog.

While we support EPA moving forward on strengthening these vital public health protections, their proposed range is not strong enough to protect developing lungs and children with asthma from the health impacts of breathing smog. In order to truly protect children's lungs, the national standard for smog should be set higher.

Tell the EPA that you support a stricter national standard for smog.
Dear [Decision maker],

As you know, an extensive and growing body of scientific evidence shows that ground level ozone, or smog, causes measurable, serious health impacts at levels commonly found in metropolitan areas across the U.S.

While we support your new standards to tighten the allowable level of smog from 75 parts per billion (ppb) to a range of 65-70 ppb, that proposed range is not strong enough to protect developing lungs and children with asthma from the health impacts of breathing smog.

We urge you to follow the recommendations of the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Panel, which determined that a national standard of 60 ppb would protect the most vulnerable breathers among us with an adequate margin of safety.

In order to truly protect children's lungs, the national standard for smog should be set at 60 ppb.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
