Tell Congress: Untangle the Red Tape for the Kids

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Habitat for Humanity
Urge your legislator to end the bureaucratic standoff preventing the National Commission on Children and Disasters from doing its important work.

Congress created the National Commission on Children and Disasters to find out what went wrong during the response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and how our government can do a better job helping kids affected by the next disaster.

But now, the Commission's important work is stalled because of a funding technicality.

Tell your members of Congress to unravel the red tape and get this important Commission on Children and Disasters up and running before another disaster hits.

Dear Congressperson,

I am writing to ask you to end the bureaucratic log jam preventing the National Commission on Disasters and Children from doing its important work. For the sake of the children affected by our next national disaster, please correct the law and ensure the Department of Health and Human Services fully funds the Commission as Congress intended.

It has been three years since Hurricane Katrina displaced more than 160,000 children and their families. Congress established the Commission to review how our government helped children in the aftermath of that historic storm. Its goal is to make sure that when the next disaster strikes, we do a better job helping the most vulnerable survivors.
