Tell Congress: Don't Mess With Wolf Recovery

Congressional efforts are now underway to remove federal protections from wolves in Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan -- in direct contravention of two recent federal court orders as well as the Endangered Species Act.

Indeed H.R. 884 and H.R. 843 threaten to reopen the door to widespread slaughter of these intelligent, social animals -- killing that could include more trophy hunts and cruel traps. We can't let these bills pass.

Deciding when to remove Endangered Species Act protections is not the role of politicians, and so these bills would set a dangerous precedent and weaken this bedrock environmental law. Wolves would lose the Act's lifesaving protections for no reason other than being unpopular with special interests and extremists.

Take action today -- tell Congress to vote no on these anti-wolf bills and any other attempts to undermine science and the integrity of the Endangered Species Act.
Dear [Representative]:

I am writing to urge you to oppose any upcoming legislation that would remove federal protections from gray wolves in Wyoming and the Great Lakes region.

[Your comment will be added here]

Such bills as those now circulating in the House of Representatives override recent court orders won by the Center for Biological Diversity and allies that stopped the wolf massacre in Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Judges have repeatedly overturned rules stripping wolves of their federal protection. And with only 5 percent of suitable wolf habitat currently occupied and almost constant threats to their safety, these apex predators still desperately need the Endangered Species Act's protection to survive.

This sort of legislation, though, is not just about wolves. Congress should not be inserting itself into what should be science-based decisions. Such congressional meddling sets a terrible precedent and leaves the Endangered Species Act vulnerable to an endless succession of politically motivated attacks. We must not allow further erosion of this immensely popular, bedrock environmental law.

Please stand up for America's wildlife and the integrity of the Endangered Species Act by opposing any attempts to strip protections necessary for wolf recovery.

Sincerely,
