No Permanent Military Bases in Iraq!

Target: President George Bush
Sponsored by: Obama for America
"The first thing we have to do is end this war. And the right person to end it is someone who had the judgment to oppose it from the beginning." - Barack Obama, October 2, 2007

Just weeks ago, the Bush administration opened the door to establishing permanent military bases in Iraq. Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, the administration's deputy national security adviser for Iraq and Afghanistan, stated that permanent military bases in Iraq will be "on the negotiating table" during talks next year on the long-term security relationship between the U.S. and Iraq.

We need real leadership to get us out of Iraq. Barack Obama opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning. He has a clear, realistic plan to end it. Under a Barack Obama administration, the occupation of Iraq will end and there will be no permanent military bases inside Iraq.

Join Barack Obama in telling the Bush administration: no permanent military bases in Iraq!

Dear President Bush,

I am opposed to permanent military bases in Iraq. I write today to call on your administration to clearly and unequivocally state that it will neither seek nor maintain permanent bases in Iraq.

On November 26, your administration released the Declaration of Principles for a Long-Term Relationship of Cooperation and Friendship Between the Republic of Iraq and the United States of America. That day, in clarifying this agreement, Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, deputy national security adviser for Iraq and Afghanistan, stated that permanent military bases in Iraq will be "on the negotiating table" during next year's talks between the United States and Iraq.

Your administration later stated that the United States does not "seek" military bases, but so far has not clearly stated that America will not accept or maintain permanent bases either.

Senator Barack Obama has been very clear: under an Obama administration, "the war as we understand it will be over. We will not have permanent bases inside Iraq. The occupation will be done."

I urge you to publicly state that the United States will not seek, accept or maintain permanent military bases in Iraq.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

I strongly support Hillary, though if it comes down to Obama vs. McCain, I'll absolutely vote Obama (I definitely respect him and find him very capable and a great candidate.) My point, anyway, is that this is an important issue and I 100% believe the idea of permanent US military bases in Iraq is not only unnecessary, but an intrusion as well. GO DEMS '08!

Let's not stop with Iraq! There is no need for our military to be spread across the world today. Shut down all bases in South Korea, Germany, England etc. Bring our troops home and put them in bases along our borders.

Not that I think you will listen to anything that "we the people" have to say, since you haven't for seven years, but it's time for you to grow up and give up your own personal bull-headed objectives, and think of what's in the best interest of our nation and our neighbors in the world community. Are you capable of doing that? I don't think so, but how about proving me wrong for once.
