Congress: Please Don't Cut Wildlife Conservation Programs!

In an effort to balance the budget, U.S. Congress is seriously considering cutting funding for wildlife conservation programs. Though wildlife-related parks and activities increase tourism and create millions of U.S. jobs, some Congress members view wildlife programs as an unnecessary luxury.

Wildlife conservation preserves our national heritage and boosts our economy by generating billions of dollars annually for wildlife-related tourism and recreation. Funding wildlife programs now is less expensive than restoring degraded land and diminishing animal populations in future years.

Please sign the petition to convince Congress to continue funding wildlife programs.

We, the undersigned, are concerned about your plans to cut funding for wildlife conservation programs. Though we realize the economy is in crisis and cuts need to be made somewhere, we believe that cutting wildlife funding will further hinder the economy and may lead to greater expenses in the future.

In 2006, wildlife parks and recreation activities generated over $730 billion a year. Hundreds of thousand of U.S. citizens are employed through the federal government's funding of wildlife programs. Cutting wildlife funding will result in lost jobs and decreased state and federal tax revenues. Funding wildlife programs now is less expensive than restoring degraded land and diminishing animal populations in future years.

Please make the decision to continue funding wildlife programs that preserve our national heritage and benefit our economy. Thank you for taking the time to consider our petition.
