Support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act

Last year, three foreign-owned slaughter plants cruelly butchered more than 90,000 horses for human consumption in Europe and Asia. Tens of thousands more of America's horses were exported from the U.S. and slaughtered in other countries.
The methods used to slaughter these horses can be exceptionally inhumane. The horses are frequently forced to endure repeated stuns or blows and often times remain conscious while they are being killed.
A bill is being proposed in congress that would put an end to this cruel practice by permanently prohibiting horse slaughter for human consumption in the U.S.
The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act would prohibit the transport, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of any horse to be slaughtered for human consumption. Earlier this year, H.R. 503 was introduced in the House of Representatives. Now a Senate companion bill, S. 1915, has been introduced.

Horses are beautiful animals that are part of our American Heritage - even though brought over by the Spanish, they have become an American symbol of freedom. I realize that they eat a lot of grass, so why can't the US govt. adopt them and feed them hay? They need shade (trees) and freedom to roam. We could allow the film industry to film them for a fee as a backdrop to films; we could also allow schools to visit the horses-roaming-wild site in order to learn more about them. Horses are noble animals. They have advanced man's culture through the years, providing transportation, companionship, raw muscle for tasks we can not do on or own strength, and at times, food. At least treat them with dignity and respect, kill them humanely, if you must kill them at all.

This makes my heart heavy with pain.Please stop slaughtering these wonderfull animals I would do just about any thing to have a horse and they are slaughtering not just my fav animal but so many other pets wildlife that will soon be extinct I don't know to much about politics but through care2 i'm s l o w l y learning.And THIS MUST STOP. I have read so many unplesent things about our pets our wild life I read about a dog being skinned alive now this. when does this stop I now know with our signing these petitions.It only takes a minute to sign so please sign so I now know it first starts with the people that work tiresley at firs getting the petion then working even harder to get them signed then on to our repesentatives.

How anyone could even fathom slaughtering these poor animals is beyond me, but for human consumtion? The fact that the United States would allow any such meat inside our borders sends a chill down my spine. Have we grown that apathetic as a country? Horses, cows, sheep.. whatever! They are all beautiful living beings just like us. I'll never understand how people can treat "farm" animals in such a disgusting way and still sleep at night, while at the same time paying hundreds in vet bills for their dogs or cats.
