Senator Obama: Add a Shelter Cat to Your Family!

Target: Democratic nominee Barack Obama
Sponsored by: Care2
Recently, the Obama family announced they would be adopting a puppy to bring to the White House. We would like to request that the Obama family extend their warmth and kindness to a cat as well. About 70 percent of adoptable cats in shelters are euthanized every year. Adoption makes a tremendous difference towards the life of one cat, as well as to the family who adopts.

The Humane Society Legislative Fund endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President, their first ever presidential endorsement. According to HSI, he backed many animal protection laws while in the Illinois State Senate, and now in the Senate has continued to show his support by co-sponsoring numerous animal rights bills. We applaud every politician who recognizes the needs of those without a voice or vote.

Senator Obama, we've looked at your record of support for animal welfare initiatives and we've listened to your promise to welcome a puppy into your home. Now we encourage you to reach across the aisle and adopt a shelter cat as well!

Dear Senator Obama,

When the Humane Society Legislative Fund announced their first ever Presidential endorsement of you, we were delighted to hear about all of your past legislative support for animal welfare. We applaud every politician who recognizes the needs of those without a voice or vote.

We also appreciate that your family has decided to adopt a dog from a shelter. We ask that you extend the same warmth and kindness to a cat. 70 percent of adoptable cats in shelters are euthanized every year. Adoption makes a tremendous difference towards the life of one cat, as well as to the family who adopts.

The United States is a pet-loving nation, and the American people would love to see an influential public figure such as yourself save the life of a pet. Please consider adding a shelter cat to your loving family.

it is wonderful to hear of a politician who is willing to help animals. every animal adopted is another who wont be put down. i work in a kennels and it is awful when healthy animals are put down simply because they cant be rehomed.

When I see a sign advertising cats or dogs for sale, I tear off the phone number slips, mark out the phone number and, in speech balloons from the animals' mouths, write in "Let my people go!" The idea that sapient beings can be bought and sold was supposedly put to rest 120 years ago, but it was too narrowly defined.

I am not certain about bringing in another animal, but somehow announce the fact that there are all forms of four legged, noo-legged creatures to adopt.

Dear Senator Obama, I am so delighted to hear you and your family are going to be adopting a shelter dog, rather than purchasing one from a pet store or breeder. There are so many loving cats also available in the shelters today who also need permanent homes. Please consider adopting a shelter cat as well, and show the world you and your family are compassionate towards all animals. Thank you and God Bless, Jackie M. Pelegrin Phoenix, Arizona

I have owned both cats and dogs (as well as a few other animals) and I do love them both. I would encourage you to adopt a dog and a cat. They will make wonderful friends, if both are adopted young. I feel having both a cat and a dog would be a great way to "reach across the aisle"!
