Stop the militarization of local police departments and hold the police responsible for their neglig

Local police departments all across the country are getting military grade weapons and war vehicles. Police are also violating civilian rights more than ever and using unnecessary, sometimes deadly force in situations that don't even call for disciplinary action. More innocent, unarmed Americans have been murdered by police than soldiers have died in the war in the middle east. The brutality will only get worse if we allow the police to patrol with m14, m16 rifles, tasers that can drop an elephant, tanks, mine resistant ambush protected vehicles, rocket launchers, grenade launchers and any other weapon of war they might be utilizing. They say it's to "keep you safe". I didn't feel safe around a police officer before. Now that they have tanks and assault rifles, I feel more unsafe than ever.

If there is room in the police budget for equipment like this, the police budget is far too high and needs to be drastically cut to fund programs that actually need the money to improve the quality of this country. Not spent on "new toys" for the police to use against civilians. We, as tax payers are paying for this! Do you feel good that your tax dollars went to buying the police department assault weapons? We need to act NOW to demilitarized the local police before it's too late.

We also need to hold the police responsible for their actions. When the police are allowed to shoot an unarmed teenager with his hands in the air for shoplifting without ever even losing a day of pay is absurd! Then when guys family wins their claim against the officer murdering a child in child blood, no disciplinary action is taken and that officer (murderer) keeps his job and the tax payers are the ones who have to pay the claim. When a police officer murders someone, they should be held directly responsible for his actions. The money from the settlement should come directly from the police department that officer worked for. Maybe they would think twice about having such an itchy trigger finger. How do you expect them to behave any different if there are no consequences for their negligence? It is happening because we, the public, allows it to take place. We fund these organizations and they are stepping all over your rights every chance they get only to extort money from you any way they can.
