End Nike Sweatshops

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about ongoing problems in factories in Indonesia, China, and Vietnam that produce Nike shoes. Problems include inadequate pay, forced overtime and abusive treatment of factory workers.

Sign Now to ensure improved labor rights in Nike factories all over the globe!

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about ongoing problems in factories in Indonesia, China, and Vietnam that produce Nike shoes. Problems include inadequate pay, forced overtime and abusive treatment of factory workers.

All three countries deny workers the internationally recognized right of free association. Without that basic right, it is impossible for workers to organize in independent trade unions collectively bargain for livable wages or negotiate for better working conditions.

We believe Nike has a responsibility to abide by humane labor practices as defined by their code of conduct that clearly states, "In the areas of human rights... in the communities in which we do business -- we seek to do not only what is required, but what is expected of a leader."

Nike, with its tremendous financial resources, should and must do better. We call on Nike to take the following steps:
  • Pay workers in Indonesia $4.00 per day and workers in China and Vietnam $3.00 per day, wages that workers in those countries claim would cover the cost of food, transportation, and shelter.
  • Institute independent monitoring by respected local groups that meet regularly with workers. For Indonesia, we ask you to hire the Indonesian Sports Shoe Monitoring Network; for Vietnam, Vietnam Labor Watch; and for China, the Hong Kong Christian Industrial Committee.

We urge you to take these actions quickly to avoid further trauma to the workers who make your products and further erosion of Nike's reputation. Demonstrate a real commitment to fair labor practices by becoming a "leader" in the fight against the proliferation of global sweatshops.

    Sincerely,
    The Undersigned
