Get Aldi to stop the selling Cage Eggs

Please do not Message there Australian Facebook Page as all you get from them is

ALDI Australia provides three types of eggs; cage, barn and free range, all of which meet or exceed Industry Standards, as well as meeting the requirements of the Model Code of Practice.

ALDI is committed to providing quality eggs which comply with leading industry standards and require all suppliers to comply with The Australian Egg Corporation Limited, including the Egg Corp Assured (ECA) farm accreditation program. The ECA program has been developed to assist producers to implement sound quality assurance practices on their farms, which covers pullet rearing, egg production and grading/packing.

Customers ultimately make a choice regarding what category of eggs they buy. All eggs at ALDI Australia are transparently labeled, featuring and complying with descriptions and specifications listed on their packaging. These descriptions include the living conditions of cage, barn or free-range hens.

We will continue to provide our customers with these three options. By offering a range of quality eggs, consumers can make their purchasing decisions based on value and affordability.

ALDI sources eggs from both small family run businesses and larger egg producers whom have invested hundreds of million dollars in the industry. Our suppliers must meet Industry and our specific requirements and share our passion for quality before they become business partners and we strive to work in partnership with them to get the best possible outcomes for our customers. Our co-operative and partnering approach extends to making continuous improvements that may extend over and above industry standards.

ALDI switches to ‘sustainable’ fish while Coles dumps cage eggs

Australian supermarkets have been responding to growing consumer activism in favour of ‘sustainable’ fish and ‘free range’ eggs.

The German-owned Australian ALDI supermarket group has announced that it will work with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) to evaluate the sustainability of its seafood range in Australia.

ALDI says the partnership will enable it to develop programs and strategies to ensure the sustainability of the supply chain and meet its commitment to ‘source sustainably wild caught or farmed seafood’.

“As a leading retailer we take our corporate responsibility seriously. We are committed to offering a range of sustainable food choices to our customers across all applicable categories, including our seafood range,” said an ALDI Australia spokesperson.

In August 2012, ALDI Australia launched a new fish-buying policy, working towards having all wild caught fish sourced through sustainable and equitable methods by 2016. The Company says it will trace its entire canned tuna range from where it is caught through supply chains and into stores. By 2014, ALDI said each canned tuna product will have the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisations (UN FAO) catchment area printed on its lid, which will allow consumers to see exactly where the tuna was caught. By 2016, the Company said its entire canned tuna range will be sourced using a combination of the available sustainable options, including Pole and Line caught and Fishing Aggregating Device Free methods.
Coles switches from caged eggs and sow stall pork

The announcement from ALDI comes not long after supermarket giant Coles announced in January 2013 that it had removed cage eggs and sow stall produced pork from its stores.
“Animal welfare issues continue to be one of the major concerns customers raise with use – they want to know that animals have been properly treated,” said Jackie Healing, Coles Head of Responsible Sourcing and Quality.

Help put the chicken before the egg,

by choosing delicious, affordable, cruelty-free alternatives...
Chickens are remarkably intelligent and social animals, each with a distinct personality. Like all animals, they deserve a life free from cruelty. You can help change the lives of these sensitive animals by eating fewer eggs or going egg-free — and choosing not to support an industry that still confines most of its laying hens to battery cages, and sentences millions of unwanted male chicks to a cruel death every year.
Why go egg-free?

Cage egg sales are in decline as more and more caring shoppers realise that battery hens endure lives of misery. With less space per bird than one A4 sized piece of paper, a laying hen is forced to stand on wire 24 hours a day and cannot even stretch her wings. Truly free range and organic egg farms afford birds more space and access to the outdoors — which is essential to their well being. However hens in all commercial egg systems are sent to slaughter when their egg production wanes at about 18 months of age (of a natural lifespan of about 10 years).

To replace 'spent' hens, millions of chicks are hatched yearly, of which only half will grow up to lay eggs. The other half — approximately 12 million economically 'worthless' day-old male chicks — are either gassed to death or ground up alive. Sadly, baby chicks face being discarded regardless of the 'production system' they were born into — cage, barn or free range.
This video shows what happens to chicks in industrial hatcheries like those throughout Australia

so lets end Cage Eggs and get ALDI to stock FREE RANGE EGGS only .
