739 12:44 pm PST, Dec 1 Jami Pankiewicz 21 Female Kellyville Oklahoma United States Legalizing marijuana would make people so much healthier and kinder to others. Alcohol and Cigarettes are legal and are known to cause life-altering damage to you and anyone around you. Yet people do not have the right to smoke a joint and feel better, and hurt no one in the process. I have one question for you..What is this world coming to? Legalize and God Bless.

736 10:54 am PST, Nov 28 adam doeden 18 Male independence Oregon United States more people die every year from "drugs" that are legal like cigarets and alchol. we also dont need to be wasting space in our jails by locking up people that like to get high. we need that space for the real cimenals
735 7:33 am PST, Nov 21 Kathy Ayres 41 Female New Albany Indiana United States While I have no personal experience with this so-called "drug," I have researched this in great detail and can find no real reason to keep it illegal and the government seems to be stammering these days about why they are keeping it illegal. In my research, I've found many, MANY reasons for the entire plant to be legalized - - from paper and clothing, to true medicinal use which is far healthier than things like Vioxx and SSRIs. So, government, what gives? Tell me why.

718 8:57 am PDT, Aug 7 Ian Ellenbecker 22 Male Mayville Wisconsin United States The prohibition of marijuana has been a complete failure. The people who smoke won't stop whether it's legal or not. Being illegal has only cost us the taxpayers more money when if legal could be regulated and used to make money for the government. marijuana is a relatively benign drug with very little serious side effects. As far as being a gateway drug its only seen that way because marijuana is easier to obtain then other drugs so most people start with that but does not affect whether or not they go into harder drugs, its only because there is no regulation on marijuana that they are introduced to these other drugs mainly through the people who sell marijuana in the first place with marijuana regulated these people wont be exposed to these harder drugs as readily because marijuana is legal!
717 8:50 pm PDT, Jul 31 Juanita King 59 Female Medina New York United States If 911 and Katrina are examples of how the Govt is protecting us; I say it's time to prioratize and stop telling Americans what they can and cannot do in their own homes. I am fed up with Govt waste, these laws are a waste of our money and police power. The two most dangerous drugs around can be bought in anytown, nicotine, and booze. Yes there are people who abuse alchol, big surprise.

712 7:24 am PDT, Jul 2 archie hubbard 57 Male ecorse Michigan United States i feel the government is slowly edging out our feedoms to choose and live as we want. People have forgotten the price our ancestors paid for our freedom this includes smoking ciggarettes but still they try to take that freedom away even in the privacy of our own homes.we must continue to remember our freedom at all cost. the men and women who fought for this country to be free would be proud.

709 2:32 am PDT, Jun 11 Georgia Forsee 24 Female Desoto Illinois United States Our country's war on drugs places great emphasis on arresting people for smoking marijuana. In the last decade, 6.5 million Americans have been arrested on marijuana charges, a greater number than the entire populations of Alaska, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming combined. In 2000, state and local law enforcement arrested 734,498 people for marijuana violations. This is an increase of 800 percent since 1980, and is the highest ever recorded by the FBI. As has been the case throughout the 1990s, the overwhelming majority of those charged with marijuana violations in 2000-- 646,042 Americans (88 %) -- were for simple possession. The remaining 12% (88,456 Americans) were for "sale/manufacture", an FBI category which includes marijuana grown for personal use or purely medical purposes. These new FBI statistics indicate that one marijuana smoker is arrested every 45 seconds in America. Taken together, the total number of marijuana arrests for 2000 far exceeded the combined number of arrests for violent crimes, including murder, manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Like most Americans, people who smoke marijuana also pay taxes, love and support their families, and work hard to make a better life for their children. Suddenly they are arrested, jailed and treated like criminals solely because of their recreational drug of choice. State agencies frequently step in and declare children of marijuana smokers to be "in danger", and many children are placed into foster homes as a result. This causes enormous pain, suffering and financial hardship for millions of American families. It also engenders distrust and disrespect for the law and for the criminal justice system overall. Responsible marijuana smokers present no threat or danger to America or its children, and there is no reason to treat them as criminals, or to take their children away. As a society we need to find ways to discourage personal conduct of all kinds that is abusive or harmful to others. Responsible marijuana smokers are not the problem and it is time to stop arresting them.

702 6:05 pm PDT, May 17 Paul Cardosi 38 Male Baker City Oregon United States its time to end the war on the American People called the war on drugs. 70 years of FAILED policy is far too long.its time to let science take over and stop destroying our young peoples lives like this war has mine.
701 7:44 am PDT, May 16 Anonymous 0 Female Townsend Massachusetts United States I not only agree with every thing said on this site but I also want to point out the $$ that can be made by this goverment if Legal!! We wouldn't be giving it all away to the growers & distributers from other countries. I believe it is a medicinal product. I believe it would solve (for a lot of people) the anxious, depressed, state of mind we americans are currantly facing.

Legalize It!

Reason #1

Many of our citizens are kept in dark, cold, overcrowded jails just for using a substance less dangerous than alcohol and cigarettes. How would this help them even if pot were a dangerous drug like cocaine?
Drugs are not a political issue- they are a MEDICAL ISSUE.

Reason #2
Legalization of any substance helps control and regulate the sales, and many countries have found that this cuts down on drug problems.
Would you really rather have people buy ANY drug from a back alley dealer?

Reason #3

HOW DANGEROUS IS MARIJUANA

(Marijuana users also have the same

LOWEST TOXICITY 100% of the studies done at dozens of American
universities and research facilities show pot toxicity does not
exist. Medical history does not record anyone dying from an overdose
